A tattoo session at a private studio is a full day. Not an appointment you fit around other things — a dedicated commitment, typically 5 to 7 hours, that deserves proper preparation.

The way you arrive affects the session. A client who has eaten well, slept properly, and come with a clear brief allows the work to go further and deeper. A client who has not done any of these things creates friction — not through any fault, but because the body and mind are not in the right state for a long, focused collaboration.

This guide is practical. Read it before your first session — and before every subsequent one if it is part of a larger project.

What to expect at the studio

The studio in Wandsworth is private — one client at a time. There is no waiting room, no reception desk, no other artists working alongside. The session is yours.

Arrival
Welcome & brief review
Coffee, espresso, or tea. A few minutes to settle, review the design or discuss any last changes. No pressure to begin immediately.
Set up
Stencil & placement
The stencil is applied to the skin. Placement is discussed and agreed — take your time here. Once you are both happy with the position, work begins.
Session
The work
5 to 7 hours of focused tattooing. Breaks as needed — this is not a race. Snacks, drinks, music or silence — whatever works best for you. The studio is yours for the day.
Close
Wrap-up & aftercare
The work is photographed. Aftercare products are provided — H2Ocean Blue Green Soap and aftercare cream. The protocol is explained clearly. Any questions answered before you leave.

Your brief

Coming with a clear brief does not mean coming with a fixed, unchangeable idea. It means coming with enough thought and material that the conversation can start in the right place.

💡
The idea
What is the subject, theme, or feeling? It does not need to be precise — a direction is enough. "Something that references Japanese mythology but feels modern" is a perfectly good starting point.
📍
Placement
Where on the body, and how large? Think about whether this will be a standalone piece or part of something larger. Both answers shape the design significantly.
🖼️
References
Images that capture a mood, a colour palette, a composition style — not necessarily tattoos. Art, photography, architecture, nature. References help far more than descriptions.
🎨
Colour preference
Colour, black and grey, or a combination? If you are unsure, say so — that conversation is part of the process. There is no wrong answer, only the right one for your specific piece.

"Every skin canvas presents its own challenges. The most satisfying moments come from collaborating with clients — bringing their visions into reality. Then watching each stunning artwork take shape before your eyes."

Pain — what to actually expect

Pain tolerance varies enormously between people, and between placements. There is no useful generalisation. What is consistent: the first hour is usually the easiest. The final hour of a long session is the hardest — not because the tattooing changes, but because the body has been in sustained stress for hours.

Eating well before the session genuinely helps. Blood sugar drops make pain feel more intense. Bringing snacks to maintain energy through a long session is not a comfort measure — it is practical preparation.

If you need a break, say so. A private studio with one client and one artist has no schedule pressure. The work will be better for it.

For multi-session projects

Everything above applies to every session — not just the first. The temptation with subsequent sessions is to treat them as routine. They are not. Each one builds on the last and the same preparation produces the same quality of conditions.

Between sessions, the most important thing is giving the skin adequate time to heal — a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks. Coming back too soon, with skin that has not fully recovered, produces worse results in the next session and potentially compromises what was done in the last.

Sessions at Volkan's private studio in Wandsworth run 5 to 7 hours. One client at a time. Espresso, snacks, and aftercare products included. Every project begins with a conversation.
